Cris says:

I have been an obsessive reader all my life, and one of my fond memories is sitting by the bookshelf next to our fireplace at home, pulling out piles of books (mostly rereads) to tackle. Enid Blyton, Trixie Belden, The Wizard of Oz series and Tolkien were the mainstays. Since then, I have always had a book (or many) on the go. However, after Uni, long working hours pushed hobbies, including reading, to one side.

I started reading again in earnest when my daughter was almost one. When my second child came along, I found that I coped a lot better with the newborn overload stage, because my head was in a better place. I felt that reading had a lot to do with that, and wanted to share that with others.

So this blog came into being - not as a reading log, but a repository for information about how reading can improve your mood, brain, life, sanity, self esteem, and make you a nicer person to be around (it had that effect on me, anyway). Expanding my reading interests was vital to making me turn my brain back on, so I have also collated some resources to help you read outside your comfort zone.

Hang around for a while and join in the discussion. Take up the challenge to expand your reading. It may have surprising results.
